My Third Year Tuition Fees (2001 – 2002)

Reading time:

Tuesday 11th September in 2001, I was at my desk in a small room overlooking a north London train line. I had been drawing and the TV screen’s been on.

I drew £ 6,750 in a few different GBP denominations on paper. It took up most pf my summer holiday.

When it was time to enroll and pay the third year tuition fees in early Oct that year, I joined the queue with most of my classmates, who, as Home or EU students had paid far less money for the past two years than I had. And, when it came to my turn and I tried to pay it in the cash that I had drawn.

This work includes many events including discussions with the college leaders and publicity in the Guardian newspaper, and eventually the final performed payment / dog barking event.
