Among many who had said ‘no’ , a shop owner in the Kilburn High Road said ‘yes’ to me. I must do the the job – the shopkeeper told me – before the shop opened in the morning.

A friend of mine helped me with her camera and a backdrop paper was pinned up temporarily. I tried to manage wearing about a dozen wigs, until the owner got impatient and pushed us off.
